Who we are

Good Teaching Tools is a free service providing web-based tools and resources for teachers. It is operated by an individual educator and used by teachers internationally.

What data we collect

Good Teaching Tools does not collect, store or share personal data about you or your students.

Specifically:

• The Personalised Report Comments tool processes your style reference and generates comments using a third-party AI service (Anthropic). Student names are not sent to any external service; they are anonymised before processing. Your style reference and generated comments are not stored by Good Teaching Tools.
• The Balanced Class Groups tool stores your class list locally on your device only, using your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to Good Teaching Tools or any third party.
• The Guided Reading Texts tool generates reading texts and activity sheets using a third-party AI service (Anthropic). No student data is entered or processed by this tool. Generated texts are not stored by Good Teaching Tools.
• The Sequenced Maths Questions tool generates maths question sequences using the same third-party AI service (Anthropic). No student data is entered or processed by this tool. Generated question sequences are not stored by Good Teaching Tools.
• The Streamlined Parent Emails tool generates the body of an email using the same third-party AI service (Anthropic). The student's first name and your notes about them are sent to Anthropic to generate the email; the parent or carer's name is never sent. Generated emails are not stored by Good Teaching Tools.

Donations

If you choose to make a donation, payment is handled entirely by Stripe, a third-party payment processor. Good Teaching Tools never sees or stores your card details. Stripe collects the payment information needed to process your donation, which may include your billing address. Stripe's privacy policy applies to this data: stripe.com/privacy

Third-party services

Good Teaching Tools uses the following third-party services:

• Anthropic provides the AI used in Personalised Report Comments, Guided Reading Texts, Sequenced Maths Questions and Streamlined Parent Emails. Your input text (style reference, topic, learning goal, or notes about a student) is sent to Anthropic for processing. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to this data: anthropic.com/privacy
• Stripe processes donations made through the Support page. Stripe's privacy policy applies: stripe.com/privacy
• Vercel hosts this website. Vercel may collect anonymous usage data (page visits, performance metrics). No personally identifiable information is collected. Vercel's privacy policy applies: vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy
• Vercel Analytics collects anonymous, aggregated data about site visits. No cookies are used and no individual users are tracked.

Your responsibilities

You are the data controller for any student data you use within these tools. You are responsible for:

• Ensuring your use of these tools complies with your school's data protection policy
• Not entering real student names into the Personalised Report Comments style reference
• Using Balanced Class Groups on a secure, personal device
• Obtaining any necessary permissions required by your school or local authority

Data protection rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have rights under applicable data protection law to access, correct or delete personal data held about you. This includes rights under GDPR for users in the EU and UK. As Good Teaching Tools does not store personal data, there is no data held about you to access or delete. Balanced Class Groups stores data on your own device and you can delete this at any time using the Reset class list function.

Cookies

Good Teaching Tools does not use cookies.
